Weir Smeared

Updated on 06/10/2022

The Oak Glen Boys Basketball teams avenged losses to Weir high from earlier in the year.  The Freshmen started things off in their usual fashion by beating the Riders handedly.  They improve to 9 - 0 on the year and has Coach Jason Wiley smiling the whole way.  The second game had the Golden Bear JV team beating Weir by 19.  In their first matchup on Dec. 5 the Red Riders had won with a double digit difference.  The JV squad is now 9 - 2 on the year with the only other loss coming at the hands of the Brooke Bruins.  In the nightcap, the Varsity team pulled away at the end for a 66 - 61 victory.  The Varsity team is now 10 - 3 with eyes on a number one OVAC seed.  The atmosphere in the Field house was electric as both teams fans coming out in big numbers.  The Bears fell behind 11-0 to start the game then decided to claw there way back into the game. For the bears Sean Smith had 20 pts., Jarrett Gittings had 15 pts. 5 reb and 4 steals, Chris Kokowski scored 10 and Ethan Travis had 10 pts and 12 rebounds.  The slow start could have been attributed to nerves and Travis having four stitches under his eye from Saturdays contest.  Either way it was a fantastic game from both teams and fans as no one left their seats until the game was over.  On the night both schools had come together for coaches versus cancer charity.  Sunny McCoy an employee at Weir High School and mother to former and well liked student at Oak Glen Jake McCoy was presented a gift from both sides as she is a cancer survivor.  The Freshmen Bears paly again this Thursday at the OG field house against Southern Local.  All three teams play Friday at Beaver Local.
